Technical and Design Services, Non-Motorized Transportation Pilot (NTP) Project

Photo-rendering of recommended pedestrian safety improvements at Seven Corners, in Minneapolis.

Community Design Group provided bicycle and pedestrian planning, community engagement, and technical assistance services to Twin Cities Metro-area jurisdictions as part of the $25 million Federal Non-motorized Transportation Pilot (NTP) grant administered by Transit for Livable Communities (TLC) and Bike Walk Twin Cities.

Improving cyclist and pedestrian safety, access and connections was a prominent goal of this work, as was supporting TLC's and Bike Walk Twin Cities' goals for inclusive and engaging public processes.

Several corridors and trail intersections in Minneapolis and surrounding cities were subject to close review and detailed recommendations; community engagement and communication services were an integral component of that work. We led community workshops and developed presentations, renderings and graphics to communicate project characteristics to residents, policymakers and other concerned citizens. We gathered and summarized public comments, and developed reports and recommendations to TLC.

Some of the projects for which CDG provided services include:

  • Jefferson Avenue Bikeway Planning
  • Seven Corners Pedestrian Improvements
  • Cedar/Riverside Pedestrian Improvements
  • Winter Complete Streets Best Practices
