City adopts 38th Street and Chicago Avenue Plan

On Friday March 21 2008 the Minneapolis City Council unanimously voted to approve and adopt the 38th Street and Chicago Avenue Small Area / Corridor Framework Plan. The Plan, prepared for Bancroft, Bryant, Central, and Powderhorn Park neighborhoods, will be incorporated into the City's new Comprehensive Plan and help guide City of Minneapolis policies for the area. Star Tribune features Edina Bicycle Plan

The Thursday November 22 edition of the Star Tribune included an article on the recently completed City of Edina Comprehensive Bicycle Transportation Plan. The article provides an excellent overview of the Plan and its recommendations for Edina.

Edina Bicycle Transportation Plan completed

On Monday September 24 Community Design Group delivered to the City of Edina the final draft of the City's new Comprehensive Bicycle Transportation Plan.

The Plan, which envisions a fine-grained network of bicycle routes throughout Edina, aims to provide Edina's citizens easy, safe and convenient connections to schools, parks, shopping and entertainment, as well as access to regional bicycle transportation and recreation routes.

The Plan is currently going through the City of Edina's review process for potential adoption into the City's 2008 Comprehensive Plan. More >

Garden cooperative opens

Urban Earth, a new flower and garden cooperative, is open for business in South Minneapolis. We provided public outreach and visioning, market and feasibility studies, and membership development services to support the creation of this resident-led community-owned business. More >

Community Design Group Director receives fellowship

Antonio Rosell, director of Community Design Group, has been awarded a fellowship into the Institute for Community Cultural Development (ICCD). ICCD is a nationally recognized leadership development program for people who work at the intersection of the arts and community development. Congratulations Antonio!

Antonio Rosell appointed to Bike-Walk Advisory Committee

Antonio Rosell, director of Community Design Group, has been appointed to Transit for Livable Communities' Bike Walk Advisory Committee (B-WAC). The committee advises the Board of Directors of Transit for Livable Communities on the implementation of the $25 million Non-motorized Transportation Pilot Program (NTP) designated for Minneapolis.

38th and Chicago selected for Corridor Housing Initiative

The 38th Street and Chicago Avenue Community Development Plan has been selected for the next phase of the Center for Neighborhood's Corridor Housing Initiative. The Initiative supports development of mixed-income housing with access to transportation options, retail amenities, parks, and job opportunities. This is the second Community Design Group project to be selected by the Corridor Housing Initiative, and builds on the success of the Lake Street Initiative.

Lyn-Lake Visioning

We presented and led a visioning and design workshop for Lake Street and Lyndale Avenue in South Minneapolis. The workshop, sponsored by Calhoun Area Residents Action Group (CARAG) and Streets for People, was aimed at finding the long-term preferences for this intersection from businesses and residents. The Northside Food Project

Northside residents enjoying access to convenient and affordable foods at an informal public market.

We are providing technical, communications and organizational support to the Northside Food Project, which seeks to establish a community-owned food cooperative in North Minneapolis. We will also be conducting public workshops to engage community members and help guide the work of the group.

Imagining the Future of Lake Street: the Visioning & Design Workshops

Wider sidewalks? Three lanes? Four lanes? Bumpouts? Parking? Bikelanes? How can we figure out what to do on Lake Street so that we can meet the needs of pedestrians, transit users, drivers, small businesses, and institutions?

The Lake Street Initiative

A project of Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association (PPNA), Midtown Phillips Neighborhood Association, and Powderhorn Residents Group (PRG), the goal of the Lake Street Inititative was to work with area residents, businesses, and property owners to come up with a vision and plan for improving and developing the area of Lake Street between 11th and 15th Avenue in Minneapolis.
