Finalists in the Minneapolis Riverfront Design Competition!
We are pleased to announce that CDG is part of one of the four finalist teams for the Minneapolis Riverfront Design Competition, a competition sponsored by The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and The Minneapolis Parks Foundation, with creative partners The University of Minnesota College of Design and Walker Art Center, to develop a guiding vision for the 220 acres of parkland and surrounding neighborhoods along both sides of the 5.4-mile stretch of the Mississippi River from the Stone Arch Bridge in the historic downtown Mill District to the city’s northern limits.
Fifty-five teams responded to the RFQ, and the 13-member jury noted that the quality was "exceptionally high."
Our team is led by Turenscape, an internationally renowned landscape architecture, urban design, and architecture firm from Beijing, China. Turenscape has won an unprecedented eight national ASLA awards over the last eight years, most of them for poetic and powerful urban waterfront parks. Turenscap's founder, Dr. Kongjian Yu, will be Principal in Charge and lead designer of our team.
We (CDG) will be responsible for creative community engagement, building on CDG’s innovative work around non-motorized mobility planning and community health.
Other team members include SvR Design Company (SvR), an integrated practice of landscape architects and civil engineers in Seattle, Washington; Alta Planning + Design (Alta, with headquarters in Portland, Oregon); Tom Meyer, FAIA, founding principal of Minneapolis-based Meyer Scherer & Rockcastle; Summit Envirosolutions; and Applied Ecological Servies (AES).
We are incredibly excited to be part of this important project that will shape our city for future generations and articulate a comprehensive, integrated vision for the Upper Riverfront that establishes parks as an engine for economic development, reconnects our City, and refocuses Minneapolis toward one of the three great rivers of the world.
