Planning the first-ever Minneapolis Open Streets event!
CDG Project Engineer Colin Harris, PE, LEED AP led planning for the first-ever Minneapolis Open Streets / Ciclovía event, which took place on Sunday, June 12th along Lyndale Avenue South between 22nd Street and 42nd Street, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
A resounding success!
Colin, a founding member of the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition, worked on behalf of the coalition for several months to make this event a reality.
Open Streets events (based on the original Ciclovía from Bogotá, Colombia) bring together families and neighbors to mingle, recreate, and shop in their communities in a safe, car-free environment. By opening up the streets for people to walk, bike, run and skate for a day, city residents get an opportunity to reclaim their streets as a hub of their community - all while promoting healthy activity and sustainable transportation, and providing a great opportunity for everyone young and old to be active while engaging with neighbors and local businesses.
