DRAFT Plan delivered to the City
Update 11.09.07: The final draft of the 38th Street and Chicago Avenue Small Area / Corridor Framework Plan was delivered to the City of Minneapolis earlier today. The City will begin a 45 day process for public and internal review and for the potential adoption of the Plan during the week of November 12.
The Plan will be avilable at the City's website, and members of the public will be able to review electronic and hardcopy versions of the document.
More details, including the location where this latest draft is posted in the City's website, will be available here as soon as they are available.
Tentative timeline for potential Plan adoption
This tentative timeline for Plan adoption has been provided by Paul Mogush, Senior City Planner at the City of Minneapolis Community Planning and Economic Development department:
- Week of November 12: 45-day review begins
- December 6: Staff presentation to the City Planning Commission's Committee of the Whole. This is a somewhat informal meeting during which public testimony is not taken. The intent is for commissioners to ask questions of staff without taking any formal action
- December 24: 21-day notice of public hearing sent to neighborhood groups
- December 26: 45-day review ends and comments are compiled into staff report
- January 14: Staff presentation and public hearing at City Planning Commission. This is the opportunity for anyone to speak for or against the plan in front of the planning commission
- February 7: Vote at Zoning and Planning Committee of the City Council
- February 15: Vote by full City Council, adoption complete
Review and comment period
The 45-day review period begins once the City posts the Plan document on its website. During the 45-day review period, anyone is welcome to send comments to Paul Mogush or other CPED City staff. If necessary based on these comments, changes can be made to the plan after the comment period.
The comment period will be publicized through communication with the four project area neighborhood groups, the business association, a press release, and through a write-up in a forthcoming special edition of the 8th ward newsletter.
Plan availability
Hardcopies of the plan will be available at Hosmer Library, Central Library, and City Hall Room 210, as well as through each the four neighborhood groups in the project area. At Councilmember Glidden's request, the City will also provide hard copies available at the three park buildings in the area. The document will also be available in electronic form on the City's web site.
