Read comments from the August 21 Kick-Off Workshop

A conversation about development and what we want from it.

Our August 21st Small Area Plan Kick-off was a great success! More than 50 people attended and contributed their ideas for this project. We worked in small groups to answer some questions about improving 38th and Chicago. Follow the links below to view:

There was a great amount of energy and optimism generated at the meeting. We'll work to incorporate the great ideas we received into the Small Area Plan as we move forward, and will be giving regular updates at the Corridor Housing Initiative workshops scheduled for our area.

Together we can improve and enhance 38th and Chicago.

38th and Chicago selected for Corridor Housing Initiative

The 38th Street and Chicago Avenue Community Development Plan has been selected for the next phase of the Center for Neighborhood's Corridor Housing Initiative. The Initiative is a partnership among neighborhoods, city government, and development consultants to support neighborhoods as they explore housing choices for a mix of incomes and households, with access to transportation options, retail amenities, parks, and job opportunities.

Connecting design with our community's health

We are working with Councilmember Elizabeth Glidden and the City of Minneapolis Department of Health and Family Support to explore carrying out a Health Impact Assessment (HIA) for our project area. This work, which would look at the public health implications of our design, land use and transportation choices would then shape the recommendations for our Plan. You can learn more about Health Impact Assessments here >

Our vision

38th and Chicago will be the hub of prosperous, inviting, safe and artful communities, a unique place and destination where people connect with each other and have the opportunity to grow and develop socially, artistically, economically and ethically.

About this plan

This Plan is a joint project of Bryant Neighborhood Organization, Bancroft Neighborhood Association, Central Area Neighborhood Development Organization and Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association. The urban planning and design consultant for this project is Community Design Group.
